Affordable web hosting for small business is vital. Web hosting provides you with storage space on a web server computer. By placing your web site files into this space and making sure they are configured correctly your pages go live and your customers can see what you have written.

Web Space
Web space is the amount of storage space allocated to your hosting account. It’s measured in MB (Megabytes). For most small business sites 20MB of web space or more is adequate. Even a larger sized site with a good mix of text and graphics shouldn't really go above 10MB. If your web site uses a lot of images (thousands), e.g. you are running a photograph collection, or if you are providing large files for people to download then you may need to think about more storage space. We offer 40MB and 100MB packages as standard (but you can have as much as you like!).
Bandwidth
Bandwidth relates to the total amount of information your account is able to send to your customers over a period of (usually) 1 month. Every time someone views a page the web server has to send the files for that page over the Internet. This uses bandwidth. Again you will be quoted a figure of e.g. 1GB (Gigabyte) which will be more than enough for the majority of small business sites. If you do end up with an incredibly popular site, getting 50000+ visitors per month then you may need more. As standard G.E.T. includes 2GB per month with your hosting account.
Download Speed
When someone views your web site you want it to display as quickly as possible. Two factors affect the speed your pages display.
- The first is the web site design (more / badly optimised images = slower downloads)
- The second is your web server speed. Web Site Hosting companies put a number of web sites on each server computer. The greater the number the slower the whole system runs, but the cheaper the hosting as the cost of the server is divided between more people.
